Ansar al-Sharia in Libya (ASL, English: Partisans of Islamic Law) is an Islamist militia group that advocates the implementation of strict Sharia law across Libya.
The organization has deliberately targeted both Libyan and American civilians and took part in the 2012 Benghazi attack.
Ansar al-Sharia carried out destruction of Sufi shrines in Benghazi, which they regarded as idolatrous.
